Purpose of Anesthesiologist

Purpose of Anesthesiologist

Doctor Anesthesiologist is a specialist doctor who has the responsibility of giving anesthesia before the patient undergo surgery or other medical procedures.

In addition, anaesthesia doctors also study pain management and patient care. The background of anesthetic doctors is a general practitioner who completes the education of anesthesiology specialists.

Before undergoing the surgical procedure, you will be drugged so that the body becomes immune and asleep. This act of anesthesia is called anaesthesia.

Administering the drug in anesthesia is intended so that you do not feel pain. Anesthesia works by blocking nerve signaling in the body and brain, thereby preventing the brain from processing pain and remembering what happens during surgery.

Various anesthesia

Broadly speaking, anesthesia is divided into three types, namely local anesthetic anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and general anesthesia.

1. Local Anaation

Anesthesia only keeps one part of the body specific, such as a hand, foot, or certain parts of the skin. Anesthetic medications are given in the form of ointments, injections, or sprays.

When you get local anesthesia, you will remain aware, so you can see the procedure. Local anesthesia only lasts a short time and generally patients can go straight home the same day.

2. Regional Anesthesia

Anesthetic drugs are injected near the nerves or a nerve fork, with the aim of turning off most areas of the body but maintaining a state of consciousness.

Examples are epidural and spinal anesthesia administered to women during childbirth or on surgical procedures.

3. General Anesthesia

General anesthesia aims to make the patient asleep and not be conscious during the operation. Anesthetic medications are administered via injections of the vein in the hand or arm, or inhale the gas using a mask or small hose that is connected with a special refruse machine.

General anesthesia is administered if the medical procedure takes hours or is done in most areas of the body.

After the anesthesia, the anesthetic doctor will intubation (the installation of breathing apparatus) to ensure that the patient's airway is safe, and provides breathing assistance during surgery.

Purpose of Anesthesia

1. Reduce patient anxiety.
2. Maintain the condition of the patient remain asleep during the surgical procedure.
3. Minimize the pain during surgery.
4. Loosen the muscles so that the patient remains relaxed.
5. Block memory during operation.

Role of anesthesiologist

Anesthesiologist has a role in some medical aspects

Preoperative management, during operation, and post-operation.

Anesthesiologists play an important role in assisting the surgeon and cooperate with the nurse in conducting preoperative preparations, monitoring the patient's condition and performing anesthesia during the surgery, as well as observing the condition of the postoperative patient. Anaesthesia doctors ensure the condition of the patient does not deteriorate.

Technically, the role of anesthesiologist begins by giving anesthesia medication. Then the anesthesiologist will intubation. Intubation is a technique done to maintain the airway and provide oxygen, by inserting a special tube on the throat stem through the mouth.

During the operation, the anesthetic doctor will check and confirm the vital signs in the patient, including:

1. Breathing.
2. Heartbeat.
3. blood pressure.
4. Body temperature.
5. Amount of body fluids.
6. Oxygen levels in the blood.

Anaesthesia doctors will also ensure the patient feels comfortable and does not feel pain. After the surgery, anesthesia will be discontinued and the patient is transferred to the treatment room until conscious. The anesthetic doctor then monitors the condition of the patient until the anaesthesia effect disappears. Consultation on Allergist, Audiologist Practice.
