Consultation on Allergist

Consultation on Allergist

An allergic consultation is a consultation with an allergic physician or immunologist (immunologist). Can be done as an initial or advanced consultation.

This consultation is highly recommended for patients who are experiencing allergic symptoms or patients who are at risk of allergies, requiring preventive care.

Most humans have some kind of allergy. According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, more than 7% of people who are 18 years of age and over are allergic to rhinitis or seasonal allergies (hay fever).

Around the world, at least 10% of the population is experiencing allergies. In addition, over the last 50 years, allergy cases have been increasing especially in developed countries. Meanwhile, the number of allergy-affected children has increased by 40% in the last year.

Allergies and immune systems are interconnected. The system is responsible for protecting the body against infection. The immune system is an important complex network, which is composed of bone marrow, lymphatic vessels, tonelage, blood vessels, appendectomy, and goiter glands.

The immune system forms an "army" called antibodies, which eradicate any threat that goes into the body. However, in some cases, bacteria or viruses enter the body and cause symptoms.

When attacking these nasty bacteria, the immune system will form certain antibodies. In this way, when the body is exposed to the same virus or bacteria, the body's immune system will be able to kill the bacteria.

For people who have allergies, they form an antibody immunoglubulin E that attacks substances or objects such as pollen, fur, and dust, which are "harmless".

For example, if a person inhale dust, the immune system becomes redundant and increases the release of histamine, which then causes common allergic symptoms such as:

• Rash
• Nasal congestion
• Watery eyes
• Difficulty breathing
• Itching
• Abdominal pain
• Uncomfortable feeling

In some very severe cases of allergies, the affected person will experience anaphylactic shock, and the condition can be life-threatening.

Who should undergo allergy consultation & expected results

Allergic consultation is recommended if:

1. Patients tend to experience anaphylactic shock – anaphylactic shock is a systematic allergic reaction, and can lead to breathing difficulties. This may be due to the narrowing of the airways, as the airways swell. This type of allergic reaction is considered a medical emergency condition.

2. Patients want to reduce the frequency of allergic reactions. During the consultation, allergic specialists will find the cause of allergies, provide medication, alter treatment plans when necessary, and advocate the most appropriate action to achieve the goals of the patient.

3. Patients want to know the cause of allergic reactions – the first step to treating any kind of allergy is to find the cause. Thus, allergies can be avoided as much as possible.

4. The patient has a risk-affected allergic factor – it includes genetic and environmental factors. For example, a person living with a pet may be more likely to experience an allergic reaction, due to animal fur. Allergic consultation can be used to explore all precautions, so that patients can avoid allergic symptoms as much as possible.

5. Allergies interfere with patient's life – often allergies are easy to overcome. However, in severe cases, allergies can significantly limit the functioning of the patient's body, thereby greatly affecting the patient's quality of life.

Consultation with an allergy specialist or immunologist can provide results as follows:

1. A deeper understanding of common allergies and specific allergies that patients have
2. Customised treatment plan to eliminate or reduce the appearance of allergies
3. Diagnosis of possible immune system abnormalities or other conditions, which increase the risk of allergies
4. Follow the development of allergies and effectiveness of treatment
5. Improve the quality of life and movement of one
